Keep your cool and sleep soundly as the temperature rises!

You’ve probably heard that you need to keep your bedroom between 16 and 20 degrees for optimal sleep conditions so here are my top tips for keeping your cool on hot summer days & nights.

10 top tips for cooling down ready for sleep:

  1. Keep curtains and blinds shut in the daytime to deflect the heat from the sun.

  2. Open windows in early morning and evening for ventilation.

  3. Take a shower before bed. The warmth of a shower will cool your core body temperature and relax you ready for bed (optional cold shower for when things get really hot!)

  4. Try a cold “hot water bottle”: freeze a hot water bottle ready to place between your sheets at bedtime. I’ve also known people freeze a damp face cloth to use a cold compress.

  5. Switch to natural breathable fabrics for your bed (cotton, linen, bamboo).

  6. Freeze your sheets! Placing your pillow case (or all your sheets) in the freezer can really help to cool things down.

  7. Limit spicy, big meals before bedtime. Try something lighter on hotter days.

  8. Avoid strenuous exercise just before bedtime.

  9. Stay hydrated throughout the day (but don’t drink too much right before you sleep!)

  10. Invest in a cooling fan and/or mattress topper for your bedroom.

Let me know which of these is your favourite!

Happy snoozing!
